workshop #2: model as prototype

I look forward to seeing you all on Friday and Saturday.  Now that you have played with both atoms (expanding pattern) and bits (scripting), it is time to form an integrated strategy for your final installation.  The goal for the workshop on Saturday is to have a physical and digital working prototype of your team’s installation piece by days’ end.  On Friday, we will begin with an informal review of your work thus far – bring your latest proposal and don’t forget to bring your physical studies from two weeks ago and prints of your scripting work.   We will discuss bottom-up and top-down design approaches.  The expanding pattern approach emphasized 2d to 3d,  I will present some of my own work on moving from 3d to 2d with digital fabrication.  Emphasis will be placed on an iterative chain of 3d (digital) to 2d (cut files) to 3d (physical).
