As I was browsing around on the web looking for scripts to generate different effects, I found one that generates this pattern. Thought all should see. Here is the link that I found it at pretty sweet. http://ssssociety.blogspot.com/2007_09_01_archive.html
Storage/Shelving System

Here is an image of the table that David and I are working on. All of the curved pieces connecting the planar surfaces will have to be fabricated in layers that are laminated and mechanically connected to the joining surfaces. Each piece will require a custom clamp that can be fashioned at the same time as everything else. The table provides several places for siting and placing laptops. We still want to work into the design of the planar surfaces places for cups, mouses, etc. Possible by incorporating our script that we finally got working.
Wall Prototype
•September 28, 2007 • 1 CommentOk, so the digital wall prototype is under construction. We hit a few problems with getting the notching to work in order for the pieces to fit together. However, this design should be flexible enough to encorporate in any space. It could go along a curve and wrap the digital lounge to create that space, if we were setting it up in a different location. It could also be skinned in translucent material or others. We have plans to mount shelves as well as a bench into this wall, and the door will be encorporated as several of the “bays.” The whole system can be created with just sheets of 4′x8′ plywood sheets. With two sheets we can construct a structural wall that is 8′ tall and 5′ wide, gaining 1.25 times the length.
Material Sourcing
•September 21, 2007 • Leave a CommentLowe’s and Home Depot aren’t the best sources for material for quality installations, and in particularly they just don’t carry certain materials. McMaster.com is an amazing industrial supply that carries everything from bolts, to bits, aluminum, and HDPE and LDPE sheets to name a few. I was surprised to see the relatively low cost of LDPE sheet (say, 1/6″ x 48″x96″) – but be advised this is a large size to ship. Generally shipping from McMaster is quick and low cost, even with ground shipping – but bigger sizes can get expensive and be much slower. I am sure there are local sources for plastics in Muncie. Wood veneer is available at Woodcraft.com and they have a local branch in Indy. Rockler.com also has wood veneer. Again, there are certainly local sources for this – a few phone calls and you should find them. The sooner you have actual materials in hand the better, and don’t forget that materials and joints do not scale up. Test a 1:1 joint ASAP with actual material.
